Self Hypnosis Myths Busted

Hypnosis Articles Directory | Self Hypnosis Myths Busted

By: Doug Slater

It often shocks me how amazed my friends are when I tell them of the things I have achieved in part by using self hypnosis. They believe I am a guru with secret knowledge, but the truth is anyone can learn self hypnosis and use it to improve their life however they would like.

The fantastic thing about self hypnosis is how versatile it is. Once you have learned how to perform self hypnosis you can use it almost anytime, any place to help yourself in almost anyway imaginable.

Rather than be vague though I’d like to name a few of the ways self hypnosis can help you with self improvement. It is know that self hypnosis can aid relaxation, create better sleep patterns, improve confidence, aid smoking cessation efforts and even weight loss. There are, of course, many other areas self hypnosis can help with.

The reason why people are willing to try self hypnosis where they may be more sceptical of hetero hypnosis (one person hypnotizing another) is that the person has complete control over the session. While, in reality, an ethical hypnotherapist would never try and control you or plant messages in your mind that you didn’t want some people would simply prefer to hypnotize themselves so that they don’t have that anxiety floating around in the back of their heads.

There are a number of myths about self hypnosis that I would like to spend a little time debunking.

The first myth is that you can somehow get trapped in a hypnotic trance. This is a complete myth because hypnosis is a naturally occurring state, one that everyone enters several times a day. The most famous being highway hypnosis where a person can drive for many hours yet it seems to fly by in minutes for them. Just as you can’t get trapped in a deep sense of focus, you also can’t with hypnosis. There has never been a recorded case of anyone being “stuck” in either hetero or self hypnosis.

The second myth is that only people with a low IQ or below average intelligence can use self hypnosis. If anything this is the opposite of the truth as self hypnosis requires focus, concentration and visualization skills.

The third and final self hypnosis myth I will bust is that a person is asleep or unconscious during the session. This simply isn’t true, all you have to do is think about it logically. If you were to fall asleep or unconscious while performing self hypnosis then the session would simply end as you would be unable to continue hypnotizing yourself. Even if someone else hypnotizes you this is not the case. Hypnosis is simply an altered state of awareness. While hypnotized you are still aware of things happening around you. You are just focused more internally rather than externally.

I hope that this article has helped you feel more at ease regarding self hypnosis. It has helped me, and millions of more people, achieve great things. Don’t be left behind.
